One of my close friends is considering running the DC 10 miler with me. She never ran or walked a race before. Hopefully she will decide to atleast walk before the end of the day. That will be good for both of us
I partnered with my aunt to walk the SF 5K as well. now I really need to partner with someone who can run the Houston 1/2 marathon with me.
Hi Santb1975,
We are working up to it, and either GoIV or myself may partner with you to run/walk the Houston Half. Working on it now :) will keep you posted!

Looks like most of the people online are not seeing this thread at all.
May be the Title need to be changed.
"URGENT CONTRIBUTIONS NEEDED. TIME RUNNING OUT. NOW OR NEVER" kind of...
People might be thinking that this thread is to discuss Integrity of Core Group.
Someone from Core group pls Update the Link and see if it works..
My 2 cents.
Sorry I am refering to the email notification, not IV board message. My Yahoo email account just recieved one email from IV when I registered my account.

Why are you equating quality of life to owning a house?
- Because you are an "owner"? No you are not! You are renting the house from the bank
- Because you have a backyard?- go out and rent a house. They are a dime a dozen, will cost you half the cost of your monthly mortgage payment
- Because you have peace of mind? Really. Read your other post on people getting laid off
- Because your (ok someone else's) kid asked if you are poor? Really? A kid's innocent question is going to make you gamble (that's what investing in an immovable asset is in your situation) away a decade of savings?
- Because you want to give your child the best possible childhood? Think about it, if things turn for the worse either in your economy/company/job (absolutely do not wish it on anyone), and you are forced to move/sell the house/get foreclosed upon etc., how much more have you hurt your family and traumatized them in your effort to give them a great childhood?
- How many nights of peaceful sleep have you lost lying awake wondering what you would do if you/your spouse lost a job, had to move etc.?
I still cannot understand how/why someone would buy a house in the bay area ($700K+ for a SFH in a minimally liveable area) and $1M+ in places like Cupertino.
I will enjoy my quality of life in my rented condo (with a rent 1/3rd of the monthly mortgage payment it would take to buy it) and take my 2 year old to the park if he feels like he needs a back yard. Dont need to mow the lawn either!
Thumbsup!!
There is a perception on this board that renting => no quality of life. After going through some of the replies, I see that some are trying to convince themselves of their decision to buy a house.

Numbersusa reported HR 2
http://www.numbersusa.com/index
Senate Minimum Wage Bill Avoided Immigration Increases
It has come to our attention that some believe that the dreadful McCain-Kennedy amnesty scheme was dropped into the bill during its passage through the Senate, but NumbersUSAs analysis of that chambers proceedings indicates that those damaging provisions were not, in fact, amended into the measure before it was sent back to the House on February 1.
Sen. Ted Kennedy (D-MA) did propose an amendment to that effect, but it was neither substantively discussed nor adopted before passage of the underlying bill. In addition, Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) introduced and subsequently withdrew an amendment that would have provided amnesty to illegal alien farmworkers.
On the positive side, Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL) offered an amendment to H.R. 2, the Fair Minimum Wage Act of 2007, which would have dramatically increased civil fines on employers who hire illegal aliens. Sen. Sessions called it a comprehensive wage reform measure, playing off the comprehensive immigration reform term used by open borders advocates. He said his amendment was an appropriate addition to that particular measure legislation designed to increase the wages of working Americans because the salaries of low-skilled workers have lagged behind due to the large influx of illegal aliens.
Although Democratic leaders refused to let Sen. Sessions' initial amendment reach the Senate floor, a second Sessions proposal was adopted that day by a 94-0 vote. It would prohibit any government contractor caught using illegal labor from future government contracts for ten years. It is expected to face serious opposition by business and union lobbyists when the bill reaches conference committee.
Sen. Saxby Chambliss (R-GA) also introduced and withdrew a positive amendment that would have required that the employers of temporary unskilled foreign agricultural workers (H-2As) pay the greater of either the Federal minimum wage or a newly defined prevailing wage.

...Please, lead the effort and let's discuss on how to convince USCIS to revert back to old spillover rules.
...I will drive this issue from my end and see what I can do about it.

Everywhere I am seeing few EB-3 india folks showing concern about the grim outlook for EB-3 india due to retrogression, noone else care about this.
It looks like many EB-3 RoW folks are relying on the VISA spillover to them and becoming "c" very soon....I dont see any reactions at all from those members either on or IV forums.
Writing to US senators and Congress Reps is the way to get some relief for EB-3 india. Each one of us should write our own story and present this USCIS pending inventory to them and educate them on how long it will take for us to receive LPR status without any releif from US congress.
VISA recapture will be easier to pass in US congress and IV should start campaign for VISA recapture. IV will receive lots of funding if they initiate this campaign as many EB-3 india folks are willing to donate for this cause.

Last month Ron G predicted the April visa bulletin and he did have a very good logical reason for it, he did go into details about it on his forum. He was NOT told by Oppenheimer what the bulletin was going to look like.
Ron only wrote to Oppenheimer to clarify the April Bulletins wording after it came out about visa number flow from EB1 to EB2 Retrogressed countries.
I have to say Ron is pretty impressive, I learned a ton by visiting his forum, he knows a lot about the inner workings of USCIS.
For example I was under the impression that USCIS followed strict procedures when it came to PDs and that processing dates schedules were correct all the time. Now I have a totally different opinion.
it does contradict with what they said in April VB, but Ron said that his source is Oppenheimer. so I would go with what he said. remember, it was Oppenheimer who told him back in Feb or early Mar that India EB2 will have a cutoff date in April.

I plan on flying to BWI Airport and reaching there Saturday by 1:00p; Is that a good option?
If I want to have full participation - what would be a good schedule for my return flight? Will I be able to catch a 6:15p flight on April 5th?
Locals - please respond.
For a full participation, I would recommend a red-eye on Tuesday or at least a flight after 9pm est.

but isn't it the best outcome? Now they can precisely set the cut-off date, instead of guessing. that should maximize the visa usage in the following years.
Once USCIS completes data entry of all 800K 485s (may be with in next month) they will have clear picture. They may give a report to DOS, how many waiting in each catagory (EB1,2,3) with PD with countrywise break out. Then DOS will easily setup the cutoff dates. This may happen in Jan or Feb.
I feel that EB3 India may stay like this (in 2001). EB2 India may go back to 2003 or 2002 , based on how many guys in EB3 with PD 2002, 2003 converts to EB2. All other countries may see slight forward movement.

I am also from the Chinese community and just have signed for a $20 monthly contribution.
I do urge people who have not made any contributions to act now!
If we don't contribute at this time, IV may have great difficulty in operating and may even be closed one day. At that time, no one organization would stand up to speak for us!
I have a PD of August 2005. Luckily, I have filed my 140/485 in Sept. 2005. I do believe that, in this forum, I am among the luckiest ones who have more freedom to change jobs and travel outside US. If you are in a situation worse than mine, for example, if you have not get your LC/PERM approved or if you have not file your 485 because of retrogression, don't you think you should be more motivated than me to contribute?
I would change my contribution to $50 monthly if we have 1000+ members to sign up for the monthly contribution. Meanwhile, I would cancel my contribution if this goal cannot be achieved by all our 8400 members within the next two months. I cannot see any point if most people who suffer from the possibility of waiting for years would not contribute while I, who might be one of the least painful ones, contribute.

I just learned about this initiative today and immediately joined. I think it is a great way to pursue our goals and this iniative for each member to invite atleast one or more others to join the community is a step in the right direction. Keep up the good work Neelu! It's my turn to bring awareness of this effort to some of my other friends who are in the same quagmire.
