I applied for 10 years passport extension ( old one issued from india) on March 05.2008 by Fedex. CGI Houston received it on March 06. Couldn't contact consulate employees as no one picks up the phone.
So went today to CGI Houston to check the status personally.
Checked with mail room and came to know that they had posted the passport yesterday. I received it in Fedex today. CGI mail room even provided me Fedex tracking number.
Old passport issued from : India
CGI received date: March-06-2008
Completed processing: April-12-2008
Fedexed the passport : April 16, 2008
Received new passport: April 17,2008
CGI Mail room keeps track of the passport status. They can lookup the applicant name and find the status.

Teddy, IV team totally understand the need for predictions, it is a time consuming effort that some of you put in the thread to answer the needs of many IV members. Absolutely true and we appreciate your commitment and dedication. That being said, prediction alone is not the answer. Prediction along with advocacy gets the work done.
Predict all year round, and help the people needing the information to plan their life around, but when there is an opportunity to add to the efforts of prediction.....such as Advocacy, please make the best of it. It is frustrating to see that many members are simply satisfied at predicting, and are broadly indifferent to advocacy. As pappu mentioned earlier, it was advocacy that was instrumental in getting the data for all the calculations.........
I am flabbergasted when I hear members say that - I will be current in a month or two, so I am not interested in advocacy. They easily forget the long wait times they themselves encountered in the past and do nothing to help the people who still have endless wait times.....
If any of the IV team members are promoting advocacy over prediction (now), it is because, if done correctly, we could collectively solve the need for prediction for all immigrants residing in this country currently irrespective of their EB category!

ok now we have 300!
The problem with the EB Community/ IV members is that we think that going and talking with our lawmakers is not going to help. Or, we are under the impression that all politicians generally know everything about us and are just unwilling to do anything about it for political reasons.
The truth is that 90% of lawmakers and their staff have no clue that there are thousands backlogged and stuck in this process for a decade.
It is our job to educate, bring our issues to light and keep pressure on them to bring/cosponsor or vote for a meaningful bill that will allievate our problems.
.
Precisely, members underestimate the importance of meeting lawmakers in a large scale. When we meet members of Senate and congress all over the country, not only can we get a new Bill, but our provisions could also get attached to any other Bills once they morally support us. But it will not happen if you just send chain mail, its all about building human relations with the law maker staff and make them aware of our problems. That is why family based visas and illegals, kids (DREAM) get ahead as they have the human factor apparent.
With law makers its all about human values, empathy, compassion, etc. - like family, kids. You can forget everything about rocket science, recursion, curve fitting - it doesn't mean anything to them in terms of getting their support. It is difficult for a technical person to understand this and their point of view. It would help to get your extended family involved if you have one.
Even today skill based immigration is not even at the forefront of population growth, as their idea about general population is a bit different and has nothing to do with IQ. that is why extra effort is needed from us.
There has to be a continuous relation maintained with the immigration rep of the law maker.

Thanks. So i shouldnt re-enter even if i have the physical card with me?
If you have the card with you, then you should just use it to re-enter. Use AP if you don't have the card with you.

I have submitted all the documents to my laywer on 6/25 itself (including medical) but they are just heavily back logged and won't be filing my case till Jul 10. I am just frustated now. I even offered to pay extra to speed it up but no use. I am only worried if dates retrogress half way through?
To my real question.. Can we just file on our own with out the lawyer? I would hate to loose this window just coz my laywer couldn't do it. Not sure how I would break that kinda news to my wife, "I know the dates were current for 10 days in July but our lawyer didn't have time so now you will have to stay at home for 1 more year".
Here is the self-filing thread.

You still do need your employer to give you one letter about your future employment. Other than that, you might have everything you need to file your 485 and employer's involvement is minimal.
If your 140 has not yet been filed, then you definately need your employer's involvement and in that case, firing your lawyer hired by your employer might actually cause more delay because you will have to do a lot of co-ordination on your own with employer and your new lawyer. Getting 140 filed without lawyer is probably very tough. So self-filing of 485 makes sense mostly for those who have approved 140.

Since people would be filing taxes early next year, and most expect some returns from Uncle Sam, how about starting a thread to pledge $ 200 from tax returns?
Also, someone had once suggested IV set up a mechanism via Pay Pal to make auto deduction of say $ 20-25 every month. That should get it more continuing contributions and help even out IV's cash flow.

I have mixed opinion about that. Say, hypothetically she attends rally, then everyone is going to think that she is biased towards legal immigrants.
It would be better if people looks at her as a non biased person, her word is more powerful that way.
Its just my opinion.
Please inform her about the rally in San Jose on Saturday. It would be great if we can get her support !

yes, it is from AILA, very likely to be true:

Subject: Update on July Visa Availability
We are hearing from multiple sources that, on Monday or Tuesday of next week
, State Department plans to issue a revised Visa Bulletin for July 2007.
This revised Bulletin would retrogress some or all of the employment-based
categories, very likely to the point of unavailable. Reports from AILA
members about unusual levels and types of activities by USCIS indicate a
particular push to adjudicate employment-based adjustments currently in the
pipeline so as to exhaust visa numbers for fiscal year 2007.
This follows the actions of USCIS in June, when it began rejecting EB-3 "
Other Worker" adjustment applications even though the Visa Bulletin showed
an October 2001 cut-off date, on the basis that the "Other Worker" numbers
for the year had been exhausted.
For more information on this situation, see InfoNet document #07062770: http://www.aila.org/content/default.aspx?docid=22767
More information to follow as it becomes available.

I've mailed my application on 3/16 and received by Houston office on 3/18 as per fedex tracking..
I sent an email to passportcgihouston@swbell.net on friday and got the response that my application was not registered in their system..
Is there some waiting time to register the application in the system?? I'll send another mail after 2 days..hopefully it will be registered by then..
Have u got any updates on ur application? They have mentioned "three weeks" as the standard time frame on the website....i guess yours has been there for three weeks.....have u heard anything from them?

I am quite confused. My date is June 2002 first week .
Not sure if it makes sense to Port to Eb2 , but big uknown is how long it would take PD to move up to June 2002.
As per the July 2010 Visa Bulletin, EB3 India should move to February 2002 by end of FY which doesn't really match with most of the calculations given here for EB3(I). So, do you own calculations. Porting to EB2 is an option, but can be challenging given the current labor conditions. In your situation, calculate the time it can take for each stage in case of a fresh application, and decide.

Looking at the Approval trend, it looks like TSC and NSC are not following the FIFO (Based on PD, ND etc) when approval. More than half of the approvals are after my PD.
Any one has any idea of approximately many EB2-I cases were approved last year in Sept 2008. Because of the out of turn approvals random date approvals I may be loosing chance once again this time.
I had RFE's for my wife's and my I485 way back in March 09 and after we replied to the RFE's and there multiple LUD's and Soft LUD's till 04/14/2009. On 04/04/2009 last Soft LUD was on my Wife's , Daughter (she never got any RFE) and my case and since then no updates. I was assuming that my case is PreAdjudicated and had high hopes.
Once again seeing an inefficient and irresponsible USCIS being unfair...
--------------------------
PD : 07/08/2004
ND : 08/09/2007
I485 Receipt date : 07/02/2007
Current status : H1B ( working for employer who sponsored GC)
I140 approved : 11/2006
I completely agree with you, somehow no approvals for folks with PD in Jul, 04 yet, have not seen any yet. May be all files with Jul, 04 PD are assigned to an IO who is on Long Term Disability (LTD) though entire USCIS is unofficially on LTD :)
I am Jul 04 PD and nothing yet and have very little hope. I called TSC and the guy told my case in preadjudicated then today i called and got routed to NSC and second level IO told case needs additional review, i think they have these standard responses written on Tarot cards.
Good luck to you.

A fund raising party sounds like fun! Coffee Hour too..
I have already got my Aunt and two of my friends to sign up for Team IV so far. We are going to train together atleast once a week and we will organize a fund raising party and contribute all the proceeds to IV.
I am sure you will have lot of fun with this.
