Same for me too!!! i got second e-mail today also. I got another e-mail on july 14th with same content. My EAD expires in 15 days and i am on EAD. I don't know What the hell is going on. I e-filed on May 8th.

Thanks for the response. I believe I should check with the school. If the school accepts just the proof of having applied for COS, then I should be fine. I dont understand if they accept F1 application proof, then why not for H4 ? Anyways thanks a lot.
I am in a similar situation. After failing to get a definite answer on the exact time taken by the process of changing status to H4 while in the US, I have decided to take a trip to India to get this stamped instead. I was told that change of status to H4 needs to be approved before starting school, simply showing proof of having applied for COS is insufficient. But if you apply for change of status to F1,then approval is not required before starting school. However I would suggest you confirm this from your lawyer/school.

I was able to talk to a very nice IO at TSC. He even offered to check where my file is and no wonder it is not assigned to an IO yet. He placed a request for file to be assigned. He also told me that case is preadjudicated. Not sure what to infer and how useful these requests initiated by IOs at TSC are as last week when i spoke to TSC the office told me that he is initiating a request to send me second FP notice but this officer said no need for that as FP are current but need uploading in system, he said he is issuing another request to upload the biometrics as well ( i did FP in NOv 2007). NO idea how will it go but case not assigned to an IO is not a good sign, will still hope for best.

I really like this idea. Core team should give this a serious thought. As macaca pointed out, it wouldn't make a difference to certain ppl, but should motivate quite a few others.
Is there any way to distinguish contributing members from non-contributing members when they post on forums ... something like adding a field to "Join date", etc. to show whether they are contributing. This will at least persuade some members to contribute out of shame...

I don't think their inqriry was initiated as my GC came very next day. I always tried to contact the 2 nd level IO by asking that I would like to confirm my Home address or my Alien number on I 140 and I 485 does not match. Just an ecuse to get to Level 2 IO instead of first level IO's who read what we see online as if we are illiterates

I don�t know if this was just a tit for tat amendment (maybe sessions introduced a anti-immigration amendment and Kerry in retaliation introduced his amendment)
Also was this just something that Kerry threw out of his pocket. Or is this a precursor of things to come?

you are correct, those petitions from academia/non-profit are not counted against the cap, also they enjoy the benefit of being able to start working as soon as it get approved as against the other H1b where u have to wait till october if you are filing for the first time.

This question has been posed before but I did not find answers so am posing too: When can one travel safely to India after applying 485?
1) If EAD and AP are filed along with 485, how long will they take to arrive. Service center dates indicate that EAD and AP currently at Jan 07. Does that mean that they are taking over 4 months to issue EAD/AP?
2) There is a an Interim EAD. Is there an interim AP if AP is pending for over 90 days?
3) Is it possible to request EAD/AP at a later time?
4) My H1B is up for reneval in Oct 07. Can I get a 3 year extension on H1, apply for a H1B visa in India and travel back to US on this? Would this be a faster option?
5) When do FP notices typically come out after applying for 485?
6) What is the grace period for FP if one misses the deadline (Is it still 12 weeks? Will the new rule to remove 12 weeks on RFE/NOID have an impact on FP?
7) If you are using an attorney for 485, will all such notices (FP, etc.) go to the lawyer as well. The concern here is that if the notice comes to my home address and I am out of the country then I am liable to miss that appointment.

A good formal education is always desirable. I have no problem with that. What I take objection to is this entitlement mentality of some folks. A degree does not entitle a person to anything. It may help people get their foot in the door, but then on, they should be judged purely by contribution and merit. This is mostly the case in US and the reason why most Indians do well here. Contrast this to an Indian system and you see all sorts of differentiation going on. An engineering graduate thinks a commerce graduate is dirt. A commerce student thinks a history student is typically retarded. An IAS officer thinks he is GOD :D. A US degree holder (of Indian origin) thinks he should be ahead of immigration line. It goes on...
In all this, we are forgetting the actual person and attaching too much weight to an educational certificate issued by an institute/university. Education is an on going thing. It is good to have formal education, but we often forget universities are not the only sources of education and degree certificates the only credentials. Heck, even USCIS recognizes this :D.
Ladies and gents, if anyone of you have that coveted PhD from Stanford, don't jump into water yet, thinking you can walk on it :D:D

I just called all the offices mentioned.
