I went online to check the status of my I-485 and it displayed me the following message
Application Type: I485, APPLICATION TO REGISTER PERMANENT RESIDENCE OR TO ADJUST STATUS
Current Status: Document mailed to applicant.
On December 19, 2007 we mailed the document to the address we have on file. You should receive the new document within 30 days. If you do not, or if you move before you get it, call customer service.
What does it mean? Does it mean that I-485 is approved.
Pls guide.

Come on folks - all the way to Riverhead we have tonnes of people living in these areas affected by Retrogression.
EAD is not a solution - EAD just makes our life a bit easier than on h1b - the struggle continues even on EAD.
How can you expect govt to fix your problem if you lack motivation?
Lets start mobilizing the chapter
Remember, we are no VIPs, we are in a mass distribution system and no one has special previlidges here, your lives won't change uless you motivate yourselves and speak up for yourselves.
We need a very strong resprsentation from everyone in the community.
Ignoring our requests only puts all of us in a tougher situation

it used to be that h4 visa period was counted as part of 6 years of h1b but not any more. But that is not a significant reason to stay on h4 visa.

Thats right. We have won a battle. We need to win the war. The visa numbers need to be recaptured for all the july I-485 to be finally adjudicated.
We need to celebrate but focus our energies on recapturing visa numbers going forward.

Senator Cornyn is proposing an amendment to the DOD bill SA 2143. I am not able to read the text of this in Senate.org. We may have to start our campaign again for a permanent fix soon.
NumbersUSA is reporting this in their website. Please we need to mobilize soon.

You apply for H1 transfer before you join new company. Once u get the H1 receipt (2 weeks) then u can be in their payroll. Then file for AC21. If all goes well this is my plan in June 08.
My question is my wife has her EAD expiring 10/10/2008, AP on 11/19/08. She wants to travel to india in May and return in november. is it ok if I change employer while she is in india, my concern is when she comes back in november her EAD is expired, will it affect our 485 status?

Please take a look at page 249. If I understand it correctly, it mentions that the quota for EB1 goes from 28.6% of EB visas to 15%, EB2 goes from 28.6% to 15% and EB3 goes from 28.6% to 35%
That means they WILL create a new category of EB visas since they have to utilize these extra visas somewhere!

As a legal immigrant to this country, my one regret this season is that after nearly 10 yrs in this country, I was unable to participate in this process by actually voting. This document is mandatory - why don't you either ask your lawyer for a copy or call up USCIS and explain the case. Another option would be to send your Online status (from USCIS website), either way - I recommend you get your I485 receipt and then scan all your documents and email it to yourself for future use.
Aah_GC: Lawyer might not have received it from USCIS otherwise irrational would not be writing it here :) Many who filed during July 07 fiasco have not received the 485 receipt notices (lost in mail) from USCIS.

Also write a cover letter stating that you have not received the 485 receipt notice from USCIS, thats it. Nothing to worry, Go ahead and file without 485 receipt notice copy.

The H1 document in and by itself is not. The I-94 card that comes printed at the bottom is. And the I-94 card is a valid document as per the I-9 form.

Once we have the pledge from committed members; IV shall announce the fund raising day (instead of fund raising thread) in advance, all committed members will contribute the same day (optimistic).

Not bad, got visa approved same day. This was my 7th year H1 extension, while I485 is pending, applied last year July..
Got appointment a month before. Consulate automatically checks for PIMS verification within next 2-3 days..I got banamex receipt made by Mexican assistance services, in fact there are many people / company willing to get this receipt made for nominal charges..
Drove to Nogales, AZ. Parked car in one of the parking lot. Cross border by foot through revolving door. No one is there to check any immigration paper for Mexico. People from India do need visa to visit Mexico but rule seems to be bit vague. To visit US consulate in Nogales, one can get local tourist permit (which can be obtained at POA in Mexico immigration. I got Mexico visa for 6 month multiple entry through local Mexican consulate in US. In retrospect, probably I wasted time and money for nothing..No one bothers to check any documents in Mexico, in fact I have look hard to find someone in immigration to stamp my entry in Mexico..
Anyway, got Cab for $7 to US consulate. Reached there at 7.30am. Appointment time was at 8am. But this doesn't matter as consulate will let all Mexican labor visa applicant to go in first (approx 150 of them). I stood in line for about 2 hours, finally got in at 9.30. Process was smooth from there on..got biometrics / photo done and then interview for 2 minutes..IO didn't ask much, just few simple questions..Didn�t even check any extra document. I was advised to come at 3 pm to collect visa which I did. (Spent 4 hours -11am to 3pm in nearby Nogales mall)
Got return cab to border. Took about 30 minutes get new I 94 made. Entered Nogales, AZ comfortably. Car was still parked safely...Returned home happily...Will continue to wait from GC, stuck in PD of April 2006 in EB2

This is good stuff. Thanks for posting it. Not sure if many people have looked at this study because everyone is busy fighting in gulti v/s panju v/s guju v/s bihari v/s others w/s every other category we can think.
